Peony bloomed
Yesterday was a sunny, hot, and humid, day. It seems like it was just what our peony needed to open up.
I love these peonies, they came from my great, maybe even great great, Grandmother. They were in my Grandmothers gardens, then my Mothers, and now in my front yard.

Tree in the sunset
Out for an evening walk I really enjoy this tree with the colourful sky from the sunset in the background.

Daisy
Everything was still a bit wet from the rain the night before. There were a few patches of daisy’s on our walk and in one spot this one was all by itself.

Hall’s Harbour
We went for a bit of a walk along the shores in Hall’s Harbour yesterday.
This is home to some of the highest tides in the world, and it’s always an enjoyable walk. My youngest likes exploring the “caves” in the cliffs. None of them go in very far but little indents into the side and lots of times some water trickling down.
This timelapse video shows the tides.

Busy bee
Yesterday we went to visit the Historic Gardens in Annapolis Royal. It’s our second time there this year and I’m sure we’ll be back more. Each visit the garden is a bit different and worth seeing.
This visit the Rhododendrons were in full bloom and the bees were loving it.

Spiral up the tower
I’ve shared a picture of the Memorial Tower in Sir Sandford Fleming park (Dingle Park) before, but yesterday I was able to go inside for the first time.
It’s pretty cool with three sections of stairs to get to the top. Starting out with a spiral stair case in the middle, followed by straight stairs following the interior walls, and finally a final spiral staircase to the top viewing area. There are great views from all four sides.
I’ve shared more pictures on my main blog.

Fresh cut grass
This year I finally got around to doing something I’ve wanted to since we built our home, have a proper front lawn.
When we built we seeded it and it just never took properly. There were so many weeds and dirt patches throughout. It was frustrating to mow and look at.
One of my friends sons started his own landscaping company for the summer so I hired him and together we ripped up the old lawn, put down new soil, and laid sod.
I mowed it for the first time today and I’m just so happy with how it’s turned out.

Lupins
The sun is coming out after some much needed rain. The lupins are coming out as well.

Pointless signs
There haven’t been any trains that run on these tracks for many years. Most of the tracks have been ripped up or buried and made into a trail system.
So these railway crossing signs are only decorative. I guess that’s not really pointless though is it? They caught my attention with the fields in the background being prepared.

Dirty fun, or dirty work
I guess it’s all about perspective. My youngest is absolutely loving playing this big pile of soil we have. He doesn’t want it to go away, it’s his construction site.
Then there is me. This pile is not fun at all, it’s all work, and I can’t wait for it to be gone.
We’re starting over again with our front lawn which involved ripping up what was there and hauling it away, spreading out the new soil over the yard, and the next step is laying sod.
My youngest was happy to “help” often, raking little piles of the old lawn and loading it on the trailer to take away. Then helping spread the soil, a handful at a time. Mostly he liked playing in it with his trucks and diggers.
